The government of West Bengal introduces the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (SVMCM) program to encourage and assist aspiring students originating from backward financial backgrounds to pursue higher education. The scholarship program is accepted by numerous educational institutions across the state of West Bengal.
The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means or SVMCM scholarship standards were updated in 2016 to effectively accommodate and support more students. The scheme is formulated to aid class 11 and 12 students at the elementary level. Moreover, the scholarship also reaches out to Graduation and Post-Graduation Programs with specializations in:
● Science,
● Commerce,
● Arts,
● Technical Management,
● Medical,
● Engineer, and
● Other Professional Courses.
The SVMCM scholarship is awarded based on the means and merit of the applying candidates.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must uphold the following eligibility requirements to successfully apply for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship programs:
● The applying candidates must be based out of West Bengal.
● Students must be registered under the regular mode by acknowledging the following factors:
○ The candidate must be pursuing Class 11 and 12 from Madrasa Education for Higher Secondary level, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education.
○ Undergraduate students specializing in Science, Commerce, Arts, Professional, Medical, and Engineering courses must be enrolled in an AICTE-recognized institution with a West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCTVE&SD) affiliation.
○ Postgraduate students specializing in Science, Commerce, Arts, Management, and Technical courses must be enrolled in a West Bengal AICTE-recognized government State University.
● Applicants must meet relevant academic requirements to apply for the scholarship.
● The consolidated annual family income of the candidate should not exceed 2,50,000 INR.
Application process
Candidates must follow the listed steps to successfully apply for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship:
● Step 1: Visit the official Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship website.
● Step 2: Select the “Register” option highlighted on the top-right of the screen.
● Step 3: Select the category according to your background.
● Step 4: Select “Application Type < Fresh Application < Apply for Fresh” and then tap on the “Proceed” option.
● Step 5: Input relevant personal details and upload essential documents as requested on the registration page.
● Step 6: After confirming the registration, an OTP will shared on the recorded candidate's phone number. Enter the correct OTP for application validation.
● Step 7: Upon registration verification the “Applicant ID” is generated. Additional login details along with the Applicant ID will be shared on the registered applicant's phone number and email address.
